20% Project Week 1: Baking

Hello, my name is Zayd. For my 20% project I’m doing baking. I have never done any baking and I’m hoping to be able to bake many things even after the 20% project. This week, my goal was to make cookies. I accomplished my goal and made chocolate cookies with peanut butter chips. These cookies were good but I’m hoping that my next things will taste even better.I went on Google and found tons of recipes of things to bake. When I was baking the cookies, it was very messy and was a big struggle. I adjusted my plan a little by changing some of the things I am going make next. Next week I am going to find some baking tips and bake some circus animal fudge. I hope that I get better with each thing I make because in the end I’m gonna try to make an awesome cake and I’m hoping it’ll taste good.

Rad Reading – March

This month, I read When The Tripods Came by John Christopher. This book is about a boy named Laurie. Laurie was sleeping one night when he and the town he was in had an encounter with an alien species called the Tripods. The Tripods came into the town and was destroyed by the military. After that there was no Tripods sighting for a while. The only thing that was left of the Tripods was a TV show called The Trippy Show. This show just was about the Tripods being dumb and stupid but as the show went on, it was more about the Tripods being heroes. Then the people who watched the shows started getting mind controlled and doing crazy things to people. Soon enough the Tripods and the people mind controlled by them were ruling all over the place. Soon enough Laurie and his family left and started surviving out of Tripod territory.

I think you should read this book because it’s just the beginning of an awesome series called The Tripods. I read the whole thing and loved it. There so many awesome moments with friends and family in each book. I love books about alien invasions and what life would be like if that really happened, so I recommend this book for people who also like that’s kind of stuff.

My favorite character was Andy. Andy is my favorite character because of how loyal he is to Laurie and how he and Laurie’s family fought their way to live in peace. One of his character traits is that he’s tough and not afraid. A quote that proves this is ““Look,” Andy said. “That’s twice we’ve been called filthy English.” He’d raised his voice. “The next one gets hit.” This proves that he is tough and not afraid because he was willing to fight a bunch of kids even though the odds were not in his favor jus because they called him “filthy English”.

My favorite quote from the book is, “Because without being yourself, an individual, you weren’t really alive.” This is my favorite because when the people are under the control of the Tripods they’re not thinking for themselves, they’re thinking what the Tripods would want them to think. This quote makes me think about when I think about things. I don’t want to do something just because someone else is doing it. I want to do it because I want to.

My Dream Job

My dream job is to be a food critic. If I was a food critic then I could eat the most amazing foods and also judge them. I would like to also be a restaurant critic as well because then I could go and see how well their service is and try their food. I would also try all the drinks and judge them too. In my past time, I would also be a TV show judge for food shows. Then I would be able to eat all the food. I wouldn’t want to be the judge of shows where the cooks suck though. I want to be on like Food Network or something like that. Not those goofy ahh Netflix shows. All of the food on there sucks! I wouldn’t want to be a dessert one though. I want REAL food. Maybe I’ll be the host of a dessert TV show. But I wouldn’t want to be on any show where the food is so bad I might die. I would also judge a lot of sushi restaurants because I only like certain types of sushi.

Can Monkeys Drive?

Can monkeys drive? That’s a question I’m going to be answering. I took my pet monkey named Amir to a driving test and asked if he could take a test. He was a little confused at first, but then said yes. He placed some cones out on the street and put Amir in the car. He told Amir about all the rules but I don’t think Amir was listening. He did here when the driving instructor said go though. He zoomed off at full speed. Amir was doing not too bad for his first time. He was going around all the cones except he barely bumped one at the end. The driving instructor was bewildered at how well Amir drove. He made an even harder test which Amir did with zero flaws. He even wanted to know if Amir could write in English! He gave him a paper and told him to write his favorite food. Amir started writing. He didn’t have the best hand writing (it kind of looked like mine), but we could read it. He wrote in the paper, “Grilled cheese with banana insides!” The driving instructor laughed and he took Amir out to eat Grilled cheese and bananas.

Rad Reading – February

This month I read the book Star Wars Ahsoka by E.K. Johnston. This book is about an alien called Ahsoka. Ahsoka’s species is called Togruta. Ahsoka is in hiding after Order 66 and must survive. She is a targeted Jedi for execution. She has to survive without the Empire finding her. On the first anniversary of the Empire which is Empire Day, Ahsoka gets in her ship and must leave before the Empire finds her and discovers who she truly is. Her fake identity is a mechanic named Ashla. She then goes to the planet called Radda. She lives there peacefully and makes some friends for a bit till the Empire arrives. They make the farmers and civilians that live there work so much that Ahsoka doesn’t leave so she can help them. Once Ahsoka tells everyone that she’s a Jedi, her friend Kaeden gets mad and leaves their hiding place. Kaeden gets captured by the Empire and Ahsoka goes to save her. She gets her out but has to leave so the Empire doesn’t capture her. She meets up with an old acquaintance and makes a plan to save her friends Radda.

I really enjoyed this book because I love the action and suspense of not knowing what’s gonna happen next. E.K. Johnston did a really good job describing the characters and I felt like I almost knew them in person.

My favorite character was Selda. Selda was a very nice and welcoming person when Ahsoka got to Radda and made a good comrade in battle. Selda always had everyone’s back and was risking to help others no matter what the case was. Selda was a very respectable person and I feel like he played in an important role in fighting their way off of Radda. I think Selda is very selfless and a quote that proves this is “I was saving this for a rainy day.” This proves that Selda is selfless because he was saving something for a different day but decided to use it for the sake of his friend.

My favorite quote was “That was where he was wrong. She wasn’t weaponless. No Jedi ever was.” This is my favorite quote because it’s so meaningful and passionate because it shows that no one is ever weaponless because there’s always a way to fight back. I also like this quote because the quote is during a battle and I really like that part of the book.

I’m Invisible!

When you are invisible for twenty-four hours, there are so many possibilities of things you can do! The first thing I would do is I would go and prank my friends. I would mess with them and whisper stuff in their ear and tap them but they won’t be able to see me. After that I would go to the store and walk in while I’m invisible and go check out what the back of the store looks like. I would then walk out of the store and freak people out with my bags because no one could see me and my bags would look like they’re flying. Then I would go home and sleep for ever until the 24 hours go away because my mom won’t get mad at me for sleeping in because she can’t see me.

Hey Siri

“Wow mom!” I said. It was my 14th birthday and I finally got a phone. The minute I finished opening my presents I got on my phone and tried out all of the new features. I got an iPhone 103 pro so I was pretty excited. I went to settings and checked out the Siri setting. The phone told me to say a bunch of random things to Siri. “Umm…hey Siri, where do I live?” I said. The thing was trying to connect to my voice and my moods to know when it’s me. “Chandler Arizona.” Siri said. I was in shock. “What the…how do you know that?” I said. The next prompt came up. So I just said it. “Hey Siri, what’s my job?” I didn’t think it was possible for her to know this. “You are a zookeeper.” Siri replied. Oh heck no. How the heck does Siri know that. I thought to myself. I gave my phone back to my mom. “I don’t want it.” I told her. “Why, is it bad?” She asked. “No. I just don’t want it. Here you go.” I said. “Ok! Say less, I can give it back for my money! Then I can buy all of the potato’s I want! Yay!” She celebrated. Then I walked upstairs thinking about how I hate Siri.

My New Home

Imagine being kidnapped by a bunch of gorillas and being taken to an abandoned island. Well, that’s what happened to me. My name is Zayd and I live on an abandoned island. First let me tell you how all of this happened. I was getting some milk from the store but when I went out and started walking home, a bunch of gorillas showed up and grabbed me and ran with me. I don’t know what happened after that but when I woke up I was on an abandoned island with no gorillas in sight! I walked around the island for a bit till I found something. There was a little baby hippo. I went over and sat next to it. “Hey. Where’s your parents at.” The hippo whimpered. “Don’t be scared.” I told it as I picked it up. I took it back to the water and let it drink. I went to work starting to get resources like food, wood, and stone. I went to take a sip of water from the ocean then realized that it was perfectly filtered. I was happy that I didn’t have to make a new water source. After 689 days, I have made a house, a little den for my hippo Jeff, and made a farm for food. I was living a good life. My house had a bed, a kitchen, and a storage room. I usually wake up, eat some bread and mashed up fruit, go searching for resources like more wood, then I eat onion soup, then I work on finding food, then eating dinner and going to bed. That’s my new life.

Dumbledores Quote

The quote “We must all face the choice between what is right and what is easy,” by Albus Dumbledore shows us that everyone usually picks the easy way and not the right way. Most of the time I usually pick the easy way instead of doing the right thing even though I know it would be better for me to do the right thing. Sometimes the right thing is the easy thing, but usually everyone at some point will have to choose whether to do the right thing, or the easy thing. One time I had to choose whether to keep going, or help someone in need, so I chose the right way and not the easy way and I helped them.

Rad Reading – January

This month I read the book Queen’s Shadow by E.K. Johnston. In this book Padme Amidala was finishing her time as queen and trying to figure out what her next step in life is. The new queen invited her to be the senator for their planet Naboo. Padme’s handmaidens were helping her make the decision if she should take up the Queens offer or not. After thinking about it, Padme finally says yes. She then takes a ship to the planet Coruscant where the Republic senate votes and doings are held. She then takes on a new life as Senator Amidala. She has to go through many obstacles like someone trying to kill her, to just a simple matter of negotiation. All the while her handmaiden Sabe was trying to help free the slaves of the planet Tatooine.

I really liked how much friendliness was in this book. It was all about Padme making new friends with the fellow senators and having nice fun talk with her handmaidens. I you really enjoy Star Wars like me, then you should read this book because it is full of references from the movies and is just the perfect Star Wars book.

My favorite character is definitely Sabe. She just is so loyal to Padme that it’s awesome. Sabe is a very brave person. Sabe’s personality is just a loyal and brave attitude. A quote to prove that she is brave is “We are brave, your highness.” This quote was meant for every handmaiden.

My favorite quote is “People are listening,” Bonteri said. “They’re just not paying attention.” This quote has so much meaning because of how it is used. Senator Bonteri was telling Padme about how nobody during the senate votings and dealings is that everyones listening, just not paying attention.
